Cool After School is an after school program focused on improving academics and helping students who struggle in school because of home environments or learning disabilities. CAS is not a replacement for school, but rather serves as a supplement - working with local schools to help kids who all too often fall between the cracks.

K4C Cool After School is open to children in 1st-5th grade who attend North LaFayette or Gilbert Elementary. CAS activities are held every afternoon during the school year, generally following the same schedule as local schools. (After school activities are cancelled on snow days, half days, and changed schedules.)

Walker County's only free after school program offers a low instructor to student ratio. This allows Cool After School to combine homework help with topical group instruction and one-on-one tutoring based on needs identified by each child's classroom teacher. Struggling students are placed on a waiting list and accepted as slots open up. DOWNLOAD APPLICATION

During the most recent school year, participating students kept up with their same-grade peers. Over a three-year period long-term participants exceeded normally expected grade level improvement. Teachers and parents of CAS students also reported improved attitudes towards schoolwork. Students who receive daily encouragement work harder and improve their grades, becoming more successful students who graduate school and go on to be successful adults.

Students left home alone between 3 and 6 PM are most likely to be involved in crime, drugs, or other inappropriate activity. Students in after school programs are statistically less likely to get into trouble during that part of the day. CAS not only gives kids something productive to do every afternoon, but combines academic assistance with moral instruction that help them make good decisions every day.

As with every activity at Kids 4 Christ, Cool After School is free of charge. Cool After School is funded by generous K4C supporters so participating children and their families are never required to pay, give, or participate in fundraising activities.
