K4C FAQs

How many children attend K4C activities each week?

Attendance changes week to week depending on school schedules, holidays, and weather, but the quarterly average has risen consistently since K4C began. Attendance will keep growing for as long as K4C has the resources to handle new children. For the latest specific attendance figures, please see the K4C Update newsletter.

What is the racial balance of children attending classes?

Kids 4 Christ does not track the children by race, because race does not matter to God or at Kids 4 Christ. The racial balance of children who attend is for the most part in line with the general population of LaFayette. The majority of children who attend, regardless of race, are from disadvantaged families.

Are children being saved through this ministry?

During the time that Kids 4 Christ has been in operation a handful of children have accepted Christ through the messages and material being presented. A few children saved justifies all the effort and expense of the entire ministry, because no individual has the right to place a value on a child's soul. But beyond the results seen so far, each week Kids 4 Christ sows seeds into children and families who might never hear the Gospel message anywhere else. Seeds are planted each day through after school tutoring, Bible classes, mentoring, and other activities. Some of those seeds may never grow, and some may not grow for years, but the seeds are being planted into people otherwise dying without the hope that comes from the message of Jesus Christ.

Why does K4C have "recess" with the kids each week during KidsFirst?

Every KidsFirst class has a period of time set aside for recreation, but only about a third of the total time spent with the kids is used for play. Since the beginning K4C has done this with the children each week, because it shows them that being a Christian is more than just sitting in a classroom listening, and shows that people can have fun without doing bad things. Recreational activities also give the children an incentive to attend each week - kids who come just to play also hear the Word of God when they otherwise wouldn't.

What type of teaching material is used at Kids 4 Christ?

The material used in each class is chosen by the lead classroom teacher. Most teachers are beginning to use an adapted form of rotation method teaching. Other teachers use prepared kits, use a mixture of several different books or kits, and some teach directly from the Bible. The unique backgrounds of the children attending sometimes call for untraditional teaching methods.

Which Bible translation(s) does Kids 4 Christ use?

For younger classes story book-type Bibles are used. The upper age classes use CEV, NIV, and KJV translations, depending on the teacher and type of teaching material.

What church is Kids 4 Christ part of?

Kids 4 Christ is an independent organization (K4C Ministries, Inc.), not part of any one church group. The ministry is financially supported by individual Christians who feel led to contribute to the program. Material donations (furniture, food, books, etc.) have been received from many churches, business, and individuals from all over the southeast. K4C workers are members of several different protestant churches in the area, with different backgrounds and testimonies. All Christians should have the same goal - reaching the world for Christ - and working together is the best way for that to be accomplished.

What denomination is Kids 4 Christ?

Kids 4 Christ does not identify with any specific Christian denomination. Lead teachers are primarily from independent, Presbyterian, or Baptist churches. However, since K4C ministers to children, the things being taught are not theologically deep and are compatible with doctrine from most protestant denominations. Kids 4 Christ is supported by Christians from many denominations, and anyone from a protestant church is welcome to work with K4C in any capacity. (For safety reasons all new workers who interact with children are interviewed and undergo background checks.)

How many employees does Kids 4 Christ have?

K4C is staffed primarily by unpaid volunteers. Unpaid staffers donate hundreds of hours each week wokring directly with children or working behind the scenes to keep activities running smoothly. A handfull of key staffers are being paid as part of Cool After School, but paid staffers makes much less than they could doing similar jobs in a secular or for-profit organization.

Who is in charge of Kids 4 Christ?

K4C Ministries, Inc., the parent of Kids 4 Christ, is governed by a 5-member Board of Directors. Day to day operations of Kids 4 Christ are delegated to K4C Administrator Gail Marks. Coordinators reporting to the Administrator supervise each program within K4C.
